I’ve often been asked, “How did you get into this?” My immediate response is always, “Out of necessity.” One day, after reading an overwhelming number of labels at a big-box store, I realized I was faced with choosing between bad and worse. From that moment, I made a commitment: as we ran out of things at home, instead of rushing to the supermarket, I would buy ingredients to make those products myself, using only necessary, limited ingredients.
Was it easy? No. Did it save us money? Maybe in the long run, but definitely not at the beginning! (It turns out that even the ingredients on those confusing labels can be contaminated.) What we can’t produce on our farm, we source locally from trusted people. What isn’t available locally, we get from reputable sellers to ensure it’s clean and sustainably sourced.
Did I make things that failed? Absolutely. And I probably will again. But why? Because health is important, and no one should have to spend time scanning labels for harmful chemicals hidden in everyday products. I’ll continue learning and growing, failing and succeeding, all with the goal of bringing you the best limited-ingredient self-care and hygiene products possible.
